You can find hundreds of types of turtles in the world. They have different sizes, forms and colors. There are some which are totally aquatic, and others which are only semi-aquatic. The aquatic kinds of turtles also distinguish one from another by the water type they are able to live in – whether it is fresh or salt water. Shells of these creatures are also various, as some are hard, and others are soft. You can find a list of some turtle kinds below.

On the other end of the spectrum to mini turtles, the largest freshwater turtle which is located on the continent of North America is the Alligator Snapping Turtle. It’s not as aggressive as the more common snapping turtle, but it is bigger. The Alligator Snapping turtle is noted not just for its size, but in addition for its capability to stay underwater for nearly an hour. They’re mainly found in the northern areas of Florida, South Carolina, and in the Missouri River.

The Leatherback Turtle, that is the biggest kind, can be identified everywhere on the planet. Not just is it the biggest breed of turtle, but it is also the only type that does not have a shell. It just has flesh and skin where the shell would be. The Leatherback Turtle lives in the sea all around the world.

This kind of turtle is known for climbing trees. It’s the Big-Headed Turtle and is located in China, Thailand, and Vietnam. In addition to climbing trees, the Big-Headed Turtle will also sometimes arc its tail like a scorpion. As its name suggests, the Big-Headed Turtle has an extremely big head, so much so that it isn’t actually in a position to pull its head into its shell.

The Green Sea Turtle is an endangered species of turtle, and is a rather large species of sea turtle. It is mainly located in tropical and sub-tropical areas around the globe, and has two different populations in both the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. Because it is an endangered species, harming, killing, and collecting them is illegal.

There is one species of turtle that can be found in captivity around the planet. It is the Red Eared Slider Turtle. In the wild, they are mainly discovered in southern United States, especially in the Mississippi River. They get their name from the red markings they have along the sides of their ears. The Red Eared Slider Turtle is among the most popular kinds of turtles which are kept as pet turtles.
